Meet This Year's Girl of the Year--Taylor

In February 2007, Taylor, 4 years old, and her mom, Lisa, visited the
pediatricians office for what they thought was a routine follow-up visit for an ear infection & fever Taylor had been fighting. Blood labs were done & because the numbers didn't look quite right the St. Pierre’s were told to come back to see if see if they had changed. The next thing Lisa knew the doctor was saying to her ‘I’m not saying it’s definitely Leukemia.’ Lisa says that as soon as she heard the ‘L’ word she couldn't believe that diagnosis could be a possibility for her daughter. Later that visit the doctor directed Taylor to go tot VCU Medical Center. Lisa says waiting in the ASK clinic at MCV was torture. After several hours of waiting and testing, they were given the dreaded diagnosis of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. The St. Pierre family’s world was turned upside down. As if this isn't hard enough on Taylor, her twin sister, Ella missed her playmate and best friend. Taylor’s treatment protocol lasted for 2 1/2 years and we are so happy & thankful today to say that Taylor is in remission! She has successfully completed her treatment, has had her port removed, and only goes to the clinic once a month for routine follow-up appointments. Taylor & Ella are truly survivors. The girls just celebrated their 7th Birthday—Diva Style! Taylor & Ella are happy healthy first graders that love to sing and dance like Hannah Montana!
